Welcome to Excelerator: A Community in Action!

Although all of our live sessions concluded on November 19, we are pleased to continue to provide access to all the on-demand and recorded content in Excelerator through January 15, 2021. If you have questions during this timeframe, please email excelerator@alliance1.org

Thank you for joining our community in Velo City. See you soon at future Excelerator events!

The VeloCity police department partners with families, communities, and community-based organizations to have meaningful conversations about institutional racism and identify systemic and equitable solutions that promote family strengths and address challenges facing the community. Community-based organizations host these community conversations and provide align services as potential solutions. The Police Department is currently unavailable as they are meeting with community leaders and organizations to discuss the effectiveness of their current practices.

The majority of what impacts an individual’s health happens outside of a medical facility, which is why it is important for us to invest in vibrant communities and neighborhoods. The non-medical factors that influence one’s health, including physical environment, education, and food, known collectively as the social determinants of health, should be addressed to help people thrive. That’s why the VeloCity hospital partners with community-based organizations, which, through their experience and expertise, play a critical role in addressing the social determinants of health and creating the standard model of care to meet the social needs of residents. The hospital is not open to visitors at this time.

VeloCity ensures that early care and education centers are publicly funded and provide universal child care and preschool access for all young children. They support healthy child development by applying the latest in brain science, maintaining low child-to-staff ratios, emphasizing social and emotional learning, and compensating staff fairly to ensure a stable and invested workforce. Early care and education centers support whole-family well-being by connecting them with social and economic mobility supports through community-based organizations directly or rich resource and referral networks. To keep the littlest citizens of VeloCity safe, Little Learners is closed to visitors.

Community-based organizations in VeloCity not only provide quality programs and services, but they also take an upstream approach that uses values-based advocacy to advance racial equity and improve social and economic conditions. They also partner with a wide variety of public, nonprofit, philanthropic, and corporate partners to foster collaboration, maximize resources across sectors, and ensure policies and regulations promote financial health and sustainability for the nonprofit sector. Thank you so much for stopping by. The Resource Center is closed because all our staff are out of the office working in the community.

Foundations support community-based organizations’ investments in capacity and innovation. A local foundation recently announced a significant grant program to launch new revenue streams, including social enterprises, at community-based organizations. Selected organizations are paired with business advisors to develop three-year business plans to launch new programs or services that meet needs identified in a recent strengths-based assessment of the community. The local coffee shop Jolt Café is the result of one of these grants! The Foundation is under construction and closed to the public at this time.
